Assignment #1- Biographical Statement

Consider:

§         Have you ever made art? What kind of art do you like? I have made sculptures, drawings, and paintings before. I love looking at photography and paintings. Photographs are interesting to look at for me because they capture a moment that can not be taken back.
§         Have you ever made a drawing? A painting? A sculpture?  I have made all of them but I really enjoy painting and drawing the best. I feel that I express myself the best through drawings and paintings.
§         When was the last time you went to a museum? Gallery? Artist studio?I have been to different kinds of museums such as the state museum, the Holocaust Museum and the Smithsonian. However, I have never been to a gallery or an artist studio.
§         Have you ever been to a play? Opera? Art Film? Do you dance? I have been to many plays. I have never been to an art film or opera.  I would love to go to both. I dance for fun! When I was younger I took ballet and tap classes.
§         Under what conditions do you learn the most?I learn the best from visuals and hearing the information. I also learn by hands-on and first-hand experiences.
§         Why are you taking this class? Although it is a requirement for my major, I took another art class with Dr. Heid and really enjoyed it! I think this class will give me an understanding of the different kinds of art and help me learn to appreciate each type.
§         Has any of the arts ever moved you in any way? How? Music and movies have definitely moved me. Movies and music can both be inspirational but in different ways. In order to be moved by music you have to listen closely to the words, and many times interpret what the artist is trying to say through the lyrics. Movies can move you if you listen to the actors and actresses, as well as watch what goes on and look for things between the lines.
§         What inspires you? Children inspire me everyday. Children seem to always put me in a positive mood and make me smile when I am having a bad day. They always find a way to laugh and that inspires me to be the same way.
§         What is art?Art includes artwork, music, movies, photography, etc. Art is a way of expressing yourself in ways that you do them best.
§         Do you consider movies art? Music? Video games? Comics? Television? I consider all of them art. Each one includes different forms of art. For example, movies and television involve acting which is definitely a form of art. Music is a form of art because of the performance that is involved. Comics and video games are also art because they involve drawings.
§         Who decided what is good art? How do they know? I believe that the artist decides what is good art. The person admiring the art also decides what is good to them based on what they like.
§         When you debate music or movies with your friends, what critical elements or standards do you hold them to?The element of music that I believe is the most important is the lyrics. The words in a song can move a person completely. The element of a movie that I feel is most important is the plot of the movie. This determines whether or not I am going to watch the movie as well as if it is something that is going to keep my interest or not.
§         What was the best movie of last year? The best movie that I saw in 2010 was The Blind Side. I feel that it was the best movie because it was very inspirational and captured my attention from the very beginning.
§         What is an “Art Film”?I am actually not sure what an art film is but would like to learn!
§         What CD or MP3 is in your player? A mixed CD with all kinds of music. Most of the music is country with a few 80s songs. I listen to all kinds of music everyday.
